My day in Jacó
BY KISHA BENNETT

You know I can think of nothing better than the feeling I get from visiting some place new. So when my school decided to take us English Teachers on an outing to the aerial tram in Jaco I was over joyed to say the least.

The thought of going on a aerial tram to see part of Costa Rica’s vast rain forest appealed to me.

The outing was proposed as the following: Departing San Jose 7:00 am to return at 5:30pm. A personalized guide along the way, box breakfast, and a ride on the aerial tram then a visit to the Hotel Best Western for an all you can eat Buffet lunch and a dip and a plunge in their clear water swimming pool.

Who could ask for anything more?

So off we went at 7:05pm in a nice bus Tourism, comfortable seats, AC when needed, music when requested, professional guide (Monica) who was most informative, nice driver and lovely weather. Perfect!
At 7:40pm we passed by the hydroelectric dam. Las Garritas and I said whoopee! 8:05am we saw the beautiful and fertile valleys of the coffee plantation. Lovely!

A bit later we found ourselves in Orotina and had our box breakfast which consisted of 2 ham and cheese sandwiches, ice tea, and an apple and a bathroom break. After being there for a few moments we departed to Jaco. The guide told us we would arrive at our destination in about 35 minutes give or take which we did.

When we got there we had a two mile drive on a dirt road into the Tram. It was nice drive as well. Upon arrival we separated ourselves into groups and boarded the gondolas with another personalized guide (VIP treatment or what!) Our guide Laura Monge was most informative as well. We learned about all types of plants and trees, animals, habitats, etc!

We did not get to see that much wildlife, actually none at all, but that didn’t matter to me since I enjoyed myself with what I did see. Actually now that I think about it we did see the most beautiful bird (the Honey keeper) so that was something!

At 12:20 we departed the tram to go the Hotel Best Western on Jaco beach where we had an all you can eat lunch (Best part of the day!!!) The food was unbelievable. There was so much to choose from that I could not make up my mind so I picked from all I could. Yes, I was very piggish but I do not regret the added pounds because it was worth it.

Everyone went for a swim in the pool, the sun fried our brains, the beach area was loaded with surfers (really cute by the way) and the afternoon was spent in pleasant relaxation and we got back to San Jose at 5:45pm tired but contented.

If you are here in Costa Rica and you haven’t had an opportunity to visit anywhere, I suggest that you do. There is so much to see and learn and more importantly the impressions you will acquire will stay with you for years to come!
