Please don’t confuse this title with the series of movies which supposedly takes place on an island off the coast of Costa Rica. However, we do have a Jurassic theme park but not with live dinosaurs.

About five hours by car from San José tourists and retired expats will find Dino Park. On guided tour visitors can view 29 species of mechanical dinosaurs which produce sounds move, They’re life-size, they move, they roar and even blink. They are made of a water- and fire-resistant foam ideally suited to give them a lifelike appearance, with motors, computers and sound boxes inside that enable them to move their bodies and emit a variety of life-like sounds. Here you can experience the land of Dinosaurs, just as imagined by the producers of the movie, Jurassic Park — life-Size, animatronic creatures living in the Costa Rica rain forest. Guides will tell you the name of every dinosaur, what they looked like, what they ate, their height and weight, and in what era they became extinct.

Replicas of the Tyrannosaurus Rex, Ankylosaurus, Brachiosaurus, Dilophosaurus, Oviraptor, Gastornis, Baryonyx and Allosaurus are jus some of species you will see while touring the park.

About 1500 people visit the park each month. Private tours for school groups and other may also be arranged. The nearby Rio Azul with its magical blue waters is another reason to visit the theme park. Lodging is available at the Blue River Hotel. The surrounding area and Blue River resort also feature four hot springs, volcanic mud baths, a swimming pool with waterslide, butterfly and frog exhibits, a spa, a gymnasium and a botanical garden.
