Don’t misinterpret what I say in this article. I am originally from the U.S. and would not be living in Costa Rica if it were not for the opportunities I received for being born a North American.
The United States is in trouble. All one has to do is watch news programs from there to come this conclusion.
Forrest fires are ravaging the western part of the country. Houston is just starting to recover from devastation caused by the worst storm of the century. The weather continues to cause havoc in other parts of the country with category 5 hurricane Irma ready to reach Florida within 24 hours.
To make matters worse race relations are at an all time low in the U.S., and the country is sharply divided with an unstable president in the White House.
The threat of terrorism is always looming on the horizon as is an armed conflict with North Korea.
The U.S. Is losing the war on drugs and the violence that goes along with it.
When you ad up all of the above , I feel blessed to be living in Costa Rica and not in the States. Why?
We have no army, terrorism and threat of war. The country has no enemies.

There is also a lot of ineptitude and inefficiency in certain areas of the government.
Crime has increased, but it cannot compare to what is happening in Mexico and the cities of the United States. I would have lived here for almost 40 years if I didn’t feel safe.
Yes, we have or problems here but they minuscule when compared to what is going on up north. When you factor in the county’s great weather, people, impeccable reputation abroad, good medical care, the general feeling of tranquility and intangibles, Costa Rica is a no brainer for people of all ages, professions and walks of life.
